Music Freaks! Here are some books to read this summer.

June 18, 2009

I haven’t done many book reviews, but just to let you know, I do read! A couple books that I’d like to recommend is “Bumping Into Geniuses: My Life Inside The Rock and Roll Business” by Danny Goldberg and  Here, There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the Music of the Beatles,” by Geoff Emerick.

Bumping_into_Geniuses_book_by_Danny_Goldberg

Now both of these books are music related and very intruiging. Bumping Into Geniuses is a really great story of how a young Danny Goldberg broke into the music scene in NYC back when rock and roll music was just starting to become popular. He recounts stories of life on the road with Led Zeppelin as their PR guy as well as manager of Nirvana and Courtney Love. Not to mention, he helped jumpstart Bonnie Raitt’s career, all the while being a record executive and raising a family on his own. Whew!

here,there--everywhere325

Here, There and Everywhere is a story from fly on the wall perspective. That fly was Geoff Emerick, who was probably the luckiest kid in London in 1962 to land a low paying, entry level job with the Beatles. Mind you, this was before The Beatles were anything at all – in fact, he tells his stories of the first time he ever heard them and the making of their first album. You learn who was the leader in the group, who was the quietest, who was rude all the time and who hung with the roadies. The stuff that went on in the studio was quite interesting, to say the least and Geoff tells all. From the crazy parties and ridiculous requests for orchestras to Yoko Ono’s bed. And if you’re at all into recording or know something about the recording process, like me, he tells in detail how he miked each album and song – what new and forbidden mike tricks he used to get the sounds from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, and more!

Origins Plantidote Mega Mushroom Face Serum – Is it any good?

June 18, 2009

org_09GH_awrd_lrg

I am one of the millions of people who suffer from eczema. It’s not too bad at times, but I always get flare ups in the face. Because of this, I’ve taken a liking to all natural skin care products. The lady at the Origins counter swore by this stuff from Dr. Andrew Weil. It’s a face serum that’s made specifically to combat inflammation from a blend of Hypsizygus ulmarius, Cordyceps and Reishi Mushrooms, Ginger, Turmeric and Holy Basil. It’s not cheap as it’s $66  for 1.7 fl. oz.

HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE some feedback!

June 17, 2009

I was shopping today and found these adorable ballet flats from Aldo. Now, usually I’m not a ballet flat kinda person, but someone walking by actually said how great they looked on my feet! I love the sparkles and stones to really dress up an outfit without losing the comfort. Plus they’re great to just slip on and wear to work or a dinner. The really great part is that they’re on sale! 50% off! They’re only $34, what a bargain, huh?

Ped Egg – for better or worse?

June 17, 2009

Last winter my mom bought me a Ped Egg and since I was wearing boots most of the time, I did not need it. Come summer, I’ve been walking the hell out of my feet. I used this for the first time a few weeks ago and it’s amazing. Last night I even used it on my boyfriend and he loved it. I know, you’re thinking that the grater-ish bottom looks like it hurts, but it feel really good actually. Try it out for yourself!

Feathered Headbands – love ‘em or leave ‘em?

June 12, 2009

feathers

I love this trend because headbands are so fun. Well, I haven’t wore them since 5th grade, but I am determined to get some cute feather headbands. They can make just a regular jeans and tshirt getup look fancy and flashy.

Anyone know of cool places to buy some? What do you think of the trend?

The best blender since sliced bread

May 28, 2009

Vitamix

My mom just bought a Vita-Mix Blender and I can’t wait to get it in the mail. The Vita-Mix is the blender that a lot of professional blending places use like Starbucks or Jamba Juice because they are strong enough to hold up customer after customer. This blender isnt’ cheap and will run you around $400 each, but well worth it. It can make soup, ice cream, sauces, heat stuff, cool stuff, etc. You don’t have to prep the fruit when you throw it in, it blends up all the seeds and stems so you don’t eve know you’re eating them! The reason I want to get one is so I can make fruit/veggie smoothies and I can’t wait.

Do you have one? What do you think of it?

The best eggs are organic!

May 28, 2009

Picture 3

We have 5 chickens in our backyard and a turkey. The chickens lay about 1 egg each everyday and it’s awesome. Organic eggs are the very best. Sometimes they are brown in color or even a greenish-white. Those are my favorite. They are so tasty and yummy and you know the chickens aren’t left in a tiny cage so you can feel better about eating them.

They call me mellow Yellow.

May 28, 2009

Yellow is such a weird color. It’s fascinates me. It’s beautiful, vibrant, yet its one of those tricky colors that only some people can wear. I LOVE this dress, but not sure I can pull of its marigold color. Note: It also comes in a deep purple, but the yellow is perfect for summer, don’t you agree?

The Anytime / ALL the Time hoodie.

May 28, 2009

Picture 2I am perpetually a cold person, even when it’s pretty hot outside and sunny. I guess that’s no big shock since I had to move back to sunny California from cold New York. Anyway, I’m always looking for the perfect hoodie. My definition of the perfect hoodie is that it’s thin enough to wear ALL the time or layer, its super soft and cozy on my sensitive skin and it’s stretchy so that you can push up the arms and they actually stay.

People, look what I found at TARGET!

NOTE: Buy a size smaller if you like them snug because they will stretch out after continual use (which I know you’ll be doing!)

Top 10 Reasons To Date a Geek!

May 22, 2009

Studs are hot but geeks are chic. Find out why here. Bill and I explain why its best to date a geek.  Here’s a sample:

5. You never have to pay customer support to figure out why your website isn’t working.

L: How annoying is it to call customer support all the time to try and fix your website, computer or anything else on the internet? Do you know what DHCP or HTML means? Me neither, but that’s why you have a geek boyfriend/girlfriend. 24 hour support ’round the clock style, and the best part is that you’re not on hold for 2 hours! Hallelujah!

B: No doubt. A few back massages and some “special attention” ;) and there’s no need for you to call Kansas… and be re-routed to India.

I heart Paige Jeans.

May 18, 2009

If you have a relatively straight figure without many curves and have a hard time finding jeans to fit you, raise your hand (hand risen!). Well I found the perfect fitting jeans – Paige Jeans. They are tailored to people without many curves, which isn’t a bad thing, just hard to shop for. I’ve tried everything from Sevens to Joe’s Jeans to Citizens to Levis to Gap to Express to Hudson to Rock and Republic…. you name it, and these are the best. I promise. You will heart them too!

Gold at the end of the rainbow…

May 18, 2009

I’ve always been obsessed with gold… (and pink).. but I was browsing the Coach store and I saw a few clutches that are literally to die for… or maybe to buy for. I dunno, you decide.

May 18, 2009

I think I’ve posted about Free People before but I’d like to reiterate how much I love their clothes. If you have a job there allows you to wear stylish, funky clothing, definitely check them out. I love their edgy colors and fun hippie-ish look. I just got a couple tanks from Nordstrom Rack. On sale and so worth it. BTW, love this tunic below – great for the office, family gatherings, shopping on the weekend, basically anything.

Hands Free Handbags, please!

May 8, 2009

After owning so many over the shoulder handbags and being in many situations where they just keep falling off my shoulder, I’ve decided in becoming more practical for my everyday handbag use. Fossil has so many crossbody purses that keep you in style while being hands free. Plus check out the many pockets for all the extra storage use. Which one is your favorite?

Slumdog Millionaire’s Billionarie Actress Freida Pinto

March 16, 2009

slumdog_millionaire03

slumdog-millionaire06

I just saw the movie Slumdog Millionaire last week and now I understand why it was nominated for and won so many Oscars. Did anyone notice that Latika (actress Freida Pinto) was ALWAYS wearing yellow? Yellow not only makes her skin tone stand out but it looks beautiful on her. I must admit that I really loved the costume designing on her. She is a true beauty.

Crocs are UGLY but COMFY

March 16, 2009

I used to make fun of these crocs all the time. But let this be a lesson to everyone – don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. I got a pair of these (PINK) fuzzy crocs for Valentine’s Day and I must say that although they aren’t attractive by any standards, they are surly very comfortable. They feel like you’re walking on pillows. And most places have them on sale for around $20. What a bargain, if you ask me!

I Need a Vacation!

March 16, 2009

Hi Everyone!

picture-1

So as some or all of you might know, I have moved out of the Big Apple and into a small town called Springfield, MO – temporarily. I’ll only be here until end of April, then I’ll go to SD for a few months. However, my boyfriend, Andrew and I are planning a vacation and we can’t decide where we want to go. Either Costa Rica, Barbados, Nassau, Belize, or anywhere else tropics. Save Jamaica for when my parents are with us, since they are natives!

ANYWAY, I’ve been looking at Paradise Island in Nassau and it looks amazing and beautiful and not too far. Anyone have any advice??

Thanks!
